Painting the Front Bumper
The front bumper had received a lot of abuse. I decided to get a cheap paint gun from Amazon and some paint off the internet and give it a try.
I removed the entire bumper cover from the car. There were gouges in the bumper and many rock chips. I used Bondo filler for bumper covers and filled in the gouges. Then I used Rustoleum filler primer in a spray can. After several weekends of priming and wet sanding I started with the base coat. Immediately I started getting fish eye in the paint.
So I sanded it down again. A coworker gave me some paint prep chemicals. So before my next attempt I wiped the bumper down with these chemicals.
I painted in my driveway and did 3 coats of paint and 2 coats of clear. I got orange peel in the clearcoat, but I was able to sand that out.
In the picture below I just sat the bumper on the front of the car to see what it looked like. The new paint has more blue in it.
